Quaff Fine Wine Merchant wins Independent Retailer of the Year 2012 in the 2012 International Wine and Spirit Competition
Last night the IWSC Banquet took place at the City of London Guildhall which played host to over 400 esteemed guests. A number of national trophies along with all international trophies were awarded during the banquet.
Quaff are delighted to announce that they have won the Independent Retailer of the Year trophy in the 2012 International Wine and Spirit Competition (IWSC).
Founded in 1969, the IWSC is considered to be the oldest and most prestigious competition of its kind. The awards given by the competition are believed to be among some of the highest honours in the industry. Judging of wines includes a blind tasting consisting of panels selected from over 300 fully experienced and qualified industry judges followed by a detailed chemical analysis. Although best known for awarding medals to the very best wines and spirits from around the world, they also recognise the importance of the independent wine merchant and the additional services and expertise they provide to knowledgeable UK wine buyers. This recognition comes in the form of the Independent Retailer of the Year Award, presented annually to one of several hundred applicants from across the UK.
Allen Gibbons, Group Chief Executive, IWSC Group Ltd commented on the success of the evening:
“Last night’s International Wine & Spirit Competition Awards Presentation Banquet brought together the great and good of the wine and spirits industry to reward excellence and quality in production, retailing and distilling as well as rewarding exceptional individuals.
“I would like to personally congratulate all winners for continuing to innovate, inspire and ignite our thriving industry. It was fantastic to see our very deserving winners enjoy an evening of celebration and recognition for their achievements.“
Hove-based wine merchant Quaff were founded in 2005 as the brainchild of ex-Sussex CCC cricketer Toby Peirce, and have two shops locally in Fiveways and Portland Road. Upon winning, Toby, proprietor of Quaff, said, “We’re delighted, of course. We’ve never entered these Awards before, having always felt that the most important thing is to have a satisfied customer and a successful business. However, now that we have entered – and won – it’s a fantastic validation to get from an organisation as universally respected as the IWSC.”
